K20 Strong Motion Network

UW Johnson Hall Strong Motion Instrument

The Pacific Northwest Seismograph Network currently employs a strong motion sensor at the University of Washington's Johnson Hall. Johnson Hall has recently been added to the K20 Network as part of an ongoing effort to increase strong motion instrumentation coverage in the Puget Sound area. During Summer 2000, twenty-two new instruments were added to the network which will provide important information about ground motion during moderate to large earthquakes. In addition, these instruments will enable students to learn firsthand about regional seismic monitoring. The data is transmitted to the University of Washington via an Internet connection and displayed on the World Wide Web.
