Silver Beach Elementary Strong Motion Instrument

The Pacific Northwest Seismograph Network installed a strong motion instrument at Silver Beach Elementary School on March 3, 2000. This installation, the first in the K20 network, is part of a project to increase the coverage of strong motion instrumentation throughout the region. In addition to providing important information about ground motion during moderate to large earthquakes, this network will also enable students to learn firsthand about regional seismic monitoring. The data is transmitted to the University of Washington via an Internet connection and displayed on the World Wide Web.
