Hazelwood Elementary School Strong Motion Instrument

The Pacific Northwest Seismograph Network installed a strong motion instrument at Hazelwood Elementary School on August 8, 2000. This installation is one of twenty-two new sites in the Puget Sound area that contain strong motion accelerometers. The new sites are part of an ongoing effort to increase the strong motion instrumentation coverage in our region. In addition to providing important information about ground motion during moderate to large earthquakes, these instruments enable students to learn firsthand about regional seismic monitoring. The data is transmitted to the University of Washington via an Internet connection and displayed on the World Wide Web.
